Pre-seminar Workbook

Pre-Seminar Workbook

Leave Your Family a Bigger Slice

A 15-minute warm-up so your seminar is two hours about your family — not generic advice.

Before we begin

How should we send you your filled workbook?

We use your details only to email your workbook and (if you tick the box below) to send your seminar reminder.

Section 1

Your family snapshot

Estate planning starts with people, not pounds.

Family complexity check — tick anything that applies
Section 2

Your estate snapshot

Round figures are fine. We’re looking for the rough shape of your estate, not a valuation.

Total estimated estate £ 0
Why this matters. Pensions usually fall outside your estate for inheritance tax (rules are changing from 2027). Life policies in trust also fall outside. Most other things — including your home — count.
Section 3

Inheritance tax — the back-of-envelope number

Most individuals get a Nil-Rate Band of £325,000. If you own a home and leave it to direct descendants, you may get an extra Residence Nil-Rate Band of up to £175,000. Couples can pass unused allowances to each other.

Estate (from Section 2) £ 0
£
Taxable slice £ 0
Estimated bill (40%) £ 0
Reality check. If your number is more than zero, your family will pay it within six months of your death — often before they can sell the house. Most of it is avoidable.

Lifetime gifts you’ve already made

Section 4

Care home fees — the silent inheritance tax

Care home fees average around £60,000 a year. In England and Wales, anything above £23,250 means you pay in full — often from the value of your home.

Tick what applies — these are the questions worth asking
Section 5

Lasting Power of Attorney readiness

LPAs only work if they’re in place before they’re needed.

Section 6

Will health check

Around two-thirds of UK adults either don’t have a will, or have one that’s out of date.

Tick the statements that apply to you
Section 7

The family conversation

The single biggest cause of probate disputes isn’t tax — it’s surprise.

Have you talked about…
Section 8

What you most want from the seminar

Two hours is plenty if we know where to spend it.

Section 9

Write them down as they come to you. We’ll make space for them.
